Fitz-Green Hallock

The Fitz‑Greene Hallock Homestead is a historic 19th-century house preserved as a local museum in Lake Ronkonkoma.

👨‍👩‍👧 Hallock family history

  • The house was built for the Hallock family, a long-time Long Island family.

  • The family lived there continuously until 1975.

  • In 1995, the last surviving Hallock family member donated the house—with all its original furnishings still inside—to the local historical society.

🏛 Preservation

Today the home is operated by the Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society as a museum.

  • It sits on about 3½ acres with outbuildings such as a chicken coop and former icehouse foundation.

  • Because most furnishings were left in place, the house acts as a “time capsule” of a late-1800s Long Island family home.
